Youth and Family Education (YFE) Assistant Director
Location: San Francisco, CA 94118
Congregation Emanu-El is seeking a passionate and dynamic Youth and Family Education (YFE) Assistant Director to join our team. As the Assistant Director, you will help to oversee our YFE department, lead a vibrant team, and ensure a top-notch Jewish education for students from pre-kindergarten to twelfth grade.
Responsibilities:
• Lead day-to-day operations of the Religious School on Sundays and weekday afternoons, working closely with the Rabbi Educator. This includes managing teacher schedules, logistics, room set up and materials management.
• Oversee the B’nei Mitzvah process, including supervising/ supporting the B’nei Mitzvah Coordinator, sending updates to families on student progress/ need for intervention, and problem-solving as needed.
• Provide family support throughout the B’nei Mitzvah process.
• Oversee the Hebrew Program, including curriculum, scheduling and the recruitment, training and retention of Hebrew teachers
• Supervise Teen Programs Manager, YFE Coordinator, and B’nei Mitzvah Coordinator.
• Collaborate with clergy and staff to advance strategic priorities.
• Manage onboarding and payroll for YFE employees, teachers, and TAs.
• Support management of expenditures and maintaining fiscal responsibility.
• Help recruit, hire, and retain teachers; arrange for substitutes when needed.
• Collaborate in organization of professional development sessions for YFE teachers and provide coaching.
• Assist in building parent community within the religious school.
• Lead planning and execution of special events.
• Support students with special needs
• Uphold safety and security protocols
Requirements:
• Love for children and teaching.

• Proficiency in Microsoft 365, video conferencing, and data management.
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
• Excellent project and time management abilities.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to follow complex instructions and adapt quickly.
• Initiative and professionalism in handling confidential matters.
• Understanding of and alignment with the organization's mission and vision.
• Teaching experience
• Supervision experience
• Significant knowledge in the area of Judaic studies
• Knowledge of Hebrew language is required including ability to teach students to read Hebrew.
• Willingness to work on site including Sundays and workday afternoons during programming.
• Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
